Hook Lift Trucks News, Videos, and Information

As the name suggests, hook lift trucks are vehicles equipped with a hydraulic hook lift hoist. These hoists will connect to flatbeds, dumpsters and other containers to lift and load them for transport. Hook lift systems eliminate the need for truck-mounted winches and cables; the hydraulic-powered hook is located at the front of the truck’ bed, enabling drivers to simply back up to the container and connect the hook to the corresponding hook on the container. They also are cost-saving: companies can purchase a single chassis to outfit with the hook lift but purchase multiple truck bodies to use as the operation demands (i.e. containers, tankers, flat-beds, etc). Unlike roll-off hoist systems, safety is increased because the loaders are operated from within the cab: drivers remain far from the moving machinery. Manufacturers of hook lift trucks include GMC, Kenworth, International, Mack, Freightliner, Volvo and Western Star, among others.
