Industry veteran Dick Kelly recently opened Kelly Equipment Co. in Lawrenceville, Ga., specifically for sales and rentals of used heavy equipment.

Kelly has been in the equipment industry since 1965 when he started his career with State Equipment in Montgomeryville, Pa. Throughout his career, Kelly gained vast experience in the industry working for various other companies such as Cleveland Tractor, JW Burress, Rupp Rental & Sales, North Carolina Equipment and Stafford. During the late 1980s, he was president and general manager of his own company, which had the same name as his present company, Kelly Equipment Co.

The new version of Kelly Equipment Co. is located at 489 Hurricane Shoals Road —an area which is now becoming “equipment row” for northeast Atlanta. The newly refurbished facility has plenty of office space; a five-bay shop, which will soon be getting new overhead cranes; and three paved acres for equipment. Kelly currently is aggressively buying and selling used equipment to meet his customer’s needs.

“If I don’t have it, I’ll find it. Even if means working with my competitors,” Kelly said.

Kelly specializes in heavy iron and offers his customers machines for sale and rent. He offers used equipment warranties on select pieces of iron.

Kelly eventually would like to provide repair service for contractors who have purchased their machines elsewhere.

Working with Kelly on keeping the day-to-day sales functions operating smoothly is Administrative Sales Assistant Brooke Hallam. She also keeps up with the accounting, Web site design and inventory control.

“After working in this industry for many years, I’ve worked with many great companies,” Kelly said. “I’ve seen their successes and I’ve seen their failures. I’ve simply taken all of these experiences and built a business based on how to do things right, while making sure everyone in the company understands that the customer is our top priority. When you build a business in this manner, you can’t help but succeed.”
