Associated Builders & Contractors Inc., Keystone Chapter (ABC Keystone) has received two awards in ABC National’s 2002 Chapter Awards of Excellence competition. The presentations were made at the ABC National Convention in San Diego, CA, and were accepted by staff members.
Hank Butler received the award for the Legislative/Political Action Committee (PAC).
ABC Pennsylvania chapters worked together to present a unified voice to the state legislature.
The fragmented approach of the past was replaced by a united group that spent $127,000 on state races. It became recognized as the voice of the free-enterprise system that saw five bills become law.
It also organized a statewide grassroots campaign to support its legislative agenda.
Sherry Evans accepted the award for Continuing Education.
Looking toward the future, the Keystone Chapter created an academy to educate field supervisors, project managers and safety professionals.
With a broad curriculum and highly-trained staff, the chapter was able to train more than 1,000 students representing 472 member firms.
In addition, the Beam Club Member of the Year was awarded for Region 7, Northeast United States, to Merv Smucker, of Smucker Company, Smoketown, PA.
The award is presented to the ABC member who epitomizes ABC membership recruitment. He received ABC’s Beam Club varsity jacket for sponsoring 10 companies in 2001, and reaching the Merit Bronze level.
