Komatsu America Corp has introduced the PC160LC-7 hydraulic excavator with Tier III engine. Designed for use in construction, utility/public works, aggregates and waste/recycling applications, the PC160LC-7 reduces operating cost through extended service intervals and increased production.

The PC160LC-7 also is equipped with the latest Komtrax technology, which sends machine operating information to a secure Web site utilizing wireless technology. Data such as operating hours, location, cautions and maintenance alerts are relayed to the web application for analysis.

The Komtrax fleet monitoring system increases machine availability, reduces the risk of machine theft, allows for remote diagnosis by the distributor and provides a wealth of other information to drive business efficiently and productively, according to the manufacturer.

Special features of the PC160LC-7 include:

• Performance and productivity

Komatsu’s turbocharged SAA4D107E-1 engine has a flywheel horsepower of 115 hp (85.7 kW) and meets EPA Tier III and EU Stage 3A emissions regulations (while reducing Nox emissions by 30 percent over the previous model) without sacrificing power or machine productivity.

A large drawbar pull of 35,160 lbs. (15,948 kg) provides enhanced steering and slope-climbing performance.

• Operator Comfort

The PC160LC-7 cab is highly rigid with sound absorption, providing a comfortable operating environment. The pressurized cab and air filter allow the air conditioner to run while keeping external dust and dirt out, and a multi-viscous cab mount system (incorporating a spring reduces the amount of vibration affecting the operator.

Noise levels are reduced through the tightly sealed cab design and, due to the larger cab, the operating seat is capable of full, flat reclining. The seat and controllers operate on a double-slide mechanism that allows them to be adjusted together or independently of each other, assisting in maximum operator productivity and comfort.

• Maintenance Made Easy

Equipped with Komatsu’s EMMS (Equipment Management Monitoring System), the PC160LC-7 was designed to reduce costly downtime. EMMS continually monitors all critical excavator systems, alerting and guiding the operator should a problem occur. By preventing a small problem from becoming a major service issue, EMMS contributes to operating cost reduction.

The system also tracks the preventative maintenance schedule, providing on-board warning as required maintenance becomes due. Error codes and troubleshooting assistance is available at the EMMS display, minimizing diagnosis and repair time.
