Construction Equipment Guide

Komatsu America Corp.’s new PC600LC-8 hydraulic excavator has increased speed and stability, an improved Tier 3 compliant engine and enhanced serviceability. The PC600LC-8 is ideal for large-scale earthmoving and utility applications, pit and quarry work, mining and other high production applications, according to the manufacturer.

The PC600LC-8 has a 386-hp (288 kW) flywheel and an operating weight between 126,320 and 132,280 lbs. (57,230 and 60,000 kg), depending on machine specification.

The new PC600LC-8 is equipped with the latest Komtrax technology, which sends machine operating information to a secure Web site utilizing wireless technology. Data such as operating hours, location, cautions, and maintenance alerts are relayed to the Web application for analysis.

The Komtrax wireless equipment monitoring system increases machine availability, reduces the risk of machine theft, allows for remote diagnosis by the distributor, and provides a wealth of other information to drive business efficiency and productivity.

High Power With Reduced Exhaust Emissions

The PC600LC-8 gets its power and work capacity from a Komatsu SAA6D140E-S engine, which adopts a cooled EGR (Exhaust Gas Recirculating) system. The engine complies with Tier 3 emission regulations, reducing nitrous oxide emissions by approximately 40 percent.

A new hydraulically-driven variable speed cooling fan is adopted for quieter operation and improved fuel economy. Fan speed varies with engine, hydraulic and ambient temperature inputs, and its fan rotation is reversible to aid in radiator and hydraulic cooler cleaning.

Updated fuel filtration is new to this engine and includes a 10 micron pre-filter with integral water separator and a 2 micron primary filter.

The PC600LC-8 is equipped with three working modes (Power, Economy, and Lifting), two boom mode settings and a Power Max control. These modes are designed to match engine speed, pump flow and system pressure to specific application requirements, allowing the operator to select the correct mode to match equipment performance to the job at hand. Economy mode now features four level settings, allowing the operator to achieve required production at lowest possible fuel consumption.

Komatsu has enhanced PC600LC-8 weight distribution for improved stability and lifting capacity, making the machine more productive and versatile in severe digging conditions, long reach work and heavy lifting applications, according to the manufacturer.

Comfortable Cab

The PC600LC-8 features a wide spacious cab with a high capacity automatic climate control system and visibility to the working area. The multi-position, PPC (pressure proportional control) levers and multi-adjustable suspension seat allow the operator to work in comfort while maintaining precise control.

Seat and controls can be adjusted together or independently.

The PC600LC-8 cab has improved sound absorption properties, is mounted to a highly rigid deck, and uses a multi-layer viscous cab mounting system that incorporates longer stroke and the addition of a spring. All of these enhancements add up to low operator noise and vibration exposure.

Easy Service Access

The PC600LC-8 was designed for easy service and maintenance access in order to reduce downtime. This hydraulic excavator is equipped with Komatsu’s Equipment Management Monitoring System (EMMS), which performs three main functions that are displayed on a large LCD color monitor. EMMS continually monitors all critical excavator systems, alerting and guiding the operator should a problem occur.

The system tracks the preventative maintenance schedule, providing on-board tracking and warning of current required maintenance. EMMS also provides error codes and troubleshooting assistance to mechanics in order to minimize diagnosis and repair time.

Built to Last

All PC600LC-8 major components are designed and produced by Komatsu. Booms and arms exhibit long-term durability and are resistant to bending and torsional stress due to large cross-sectional structures, thick high tensile strength steel and interior partition walls. Komatsu frames are designed using three-dimensional CAD and FEM analysis technology.

Electronic devices have passed severe testing, metal guard rings protect all hydraulic cylinders, and DT-type electrical connectors seal tight against dirt and moisture. Hydraulic hoses are equipped with O-ring seals versus conventional taper seals to provide extended leak-free life.
