Link-Belt Cranes TCC-2500 telecrawler is working in Puerto Rico, completing foundation work as part of a $1.6 billion project.
Awarded to Ferrovial Construcción, based in San Juan, Puerto Rico, by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Caribbean District (USACE), the contract covers channel improvements along the Río Piedras river.
"This contract represents a significant step forward in our shared commitment to reduce flood risk for the people of San Juan," said Charles L. Decker, Caribbean District commander, in an article on the USACE website. "The Río Puerto Nuevo Project is a generational investment in public safety and resilience."
The TCC-2500 is critical to the job, tandem lifting 50,000-lb. drilled shaft rebar cages and installing sheet piling.
"The TCC-2500 is suitable for this job because of its capacity," Ferrovial Construcción Project Manager Jorge Nogales said. "And since it is a crawler crane, I believe it is more versatile than other types of cranes for the particular ground conditions of the site. The long telescopic boom adapts to almost all of the project's lifting operations: from lifting rebar cages to unloading and loading heavy materials and equipment, installing a temporary steel bridge, among others."
The project consists of multiple phases that will be completed over the next decade.
