Landoll Co. announced the completion and donation of its 40,000th 440 Series Traveling Axle Trailer to the International Towing and Recovery Museum, where the one-of-a-kind trailer will be auctioned in October 2026 during the museum's 40th anniversary celebration.
As the original inventor of the traveling axle trailer, Landoll has long been recognized as an innovator within the transportation and towing industries.
The donation of this milestone 40,000th trailer represents not only a celebration of engineering and industry history, but also a tribute to the men and women who have dedicated — and in some cases sacrificed — their lives in towing and recovery service.
The custom-designed trailer features powerful artwork created by April Spicer of Marysville, Kan. One side of the trailer honors every inductee in the Towing and Recovery Hall of Fame, while the opposite side pays tribute to those memorialized on the Wall of the Fallen in Chattanooga, Tenn.
At the center of the artwork is a depiction of the Wall of the Fallen statue alongside a prominently displayed American flag — symbolizing patriotism, sacrifice and unity. The trailer's unveiling coincides with America's upcoming 250th anniversary, making the project especially meaningful as communities nationwide reflect on service, freedom, and national pride.
"This trailer represents far more than a piece of equipment," Don Landoll said. "It is a rolling tribute to the towing and recovery industry, the people who built it, the heroes we have lost, and the importance of safety for those working roadside every day."
The trailer will travel across the United States leading up to the October 2026 auction, helping raise awareness for "Slow Down, Move Over" safety initiatives. The campaign encourages motorists to slow down and safely move over when approaching emergency, towing and recovery vehicles stopped alongside roadways.
According to industry statistics, roadside recovery professionals face some of the most dangerous working conditions in America. Landoll hopes the visibility of this special trailer will help educate the public and save lives.
Since 1963, Landoll, which was founded in Marysville, Kan., said it has remained committed to innovation, craftsmanship and supporting the industries that keep America moving. The company said it considers this donation both a celebration of its heritage and a commitment to honoring the towing and recovery professionals who serve communities across the nation every day.
