New York CEO Lands

Arthur M. Dinitz, chairman and chief executive officer of New York-based Transpo Industries Inc., is the private sector recipient of the American Road & Transportation Builders Association’s (ARTBA) 2001 John “Jake” Landen Memorial Highway Safety Award. The award was presented Oct. 28, at the association’s mid-year meeting, held in New York City.

Established in 1989 in memory of safety industry leader and Past ARTBA Chairman (1976) J.C. Landen, this annual award recognizes outstanding contributions to highway safety.

Dinitz has spent nearly 35 years focused on roadway and transportation safety issues. Under his direction, Transpo Industries has been an industry leader in the development of transportation safety products, such as crash cushions, breakaway supports for signs and light poles, truck-mounted attenuators, glare screens, jet blast safety and security fences for airports and railroad safety crossing systems.

Dinitz also has been an active leader in ARTBA, serving as president of the association’s Traffic Safety Industry Division, a member of the board and the executive committee, and a member of the ARTBA Safety Advisory Council. He also serves as an ARTBA representative on the AASHTO-AGC-ARTBA Joint Committee and co-chairs the committee on New Technology and Materials.

Federal Highway Administration Chief Highway Safety Engineer Rudolph M. Umbs was named the public sector recipient of the Landen Award in recognition of his efforts to improve safety on America’s roadways during his 32-year career with the government agency.
