SANTA FE (AP) Transportation Secretary Rhonda Faught is getting a firsthand view of work zone safety.
Faught kicked off a safety campaign on May 12 by moving her office to a construction zone on U.S. 84-285.
“I want to bring attention to the fact that work zone safety is a very serious issue that affects not only highway and construction workers, but motorists traveling through the work zones,” Faught said.
According to Faught, the work zone safety campaign will focus on educating motorists.
More than 40,000 people are injured in the United States each year in crashes in work zones, Faught said.
The Transportation Department will run radio and television advertisements, pass out pamphlets and erect signs at construction zones as part of the Let ’em Live campaign.
