The National Stone, Sand & Gravel Association (NSSGA) announced the winners of the Safety Excellence Awards, the Louis Griesemer Sterling Safety Awards and the James M. Christie Safety and Health Professional of the Year Award during the lunch session of the 2026 Legislative & Policy Forum.
"Safety continues to be a core value of the aggregates industry, and each of our members remain committed to promoting healthy and safe practices in their operations," said NSSGA President and CEO Michele Stanley. "I congratulate all our winners for their work to ensure each worker goes home safely at the end of the day."
The Safety Excellence Awards recognize aggregates operations maintaining a safe workplace, evidenced by their safety performance over a consecutive period without an MSHA-reportable injury. The Louis Griesemer Sterling Safety Awards recognize NSSGA member companies having the lowest total accident incidence rate for the previous year in their size category.
Additionally, the 2026 James M. Christie Safety and Health Professional of the Year was awarded to Jay Canada of Pine Bluff Sand & Gravel. Canada is an industry leader in workplace safety and an active member of the NSSGA Health & Safety Subcommittee, Workforce Development Task Force, Technical Advisory Committee and the MSHA-NSSGA Alliance.
