The Ohio Turnpike and Infrastructure Commission is moving forward with a nearly $247 million construction program in 2026, featuring roadway resurfacing, pavement replacement and bridge rehabilitation projects throughout northern Ohio.
Of the total capital budget, approximately $170 million is allocated for roadway and bridge improvements, including 114 lane mi. of pavement work and extensive rehabilitation on structures along the turnpike corridor.
Construction Projects By County
Fulton County — Projects include a mainline resurfacing from milepost 33.7 to 38.9 with all lanes and shoulders resurfaced in both directions. Work is under way with an expected completion date of Oct. 19, 2026.
Also included is the widening and redecking of the mainline bridge over Bad Creek at milepost 41.3. Construction is under way with completion expected by Dec. 1, 2027.
Lucas, Wood Counties — A bridge deck replacement project includes redecking the westbound mainline bridge over the Maumee River at milepost 63. Construction is ongoing with completion expected by Nov. 15, 2026. Additional work to the eastbound structure is scheduled for 2027 and 2028.
Wood County — A resurfacing project from milepost 66.7 to 70 includes all lanes and shoulders in both directions, with additional left-lane and shoulder work from milepost 70 to 74. The project is under way and is expected to be completed in September 2026.
Ottawa, Sandusky Counties — Bridge repainting projects include overhead bridges at State Route 51 at milepost 80.9, Dischinger Road at milepost 81.5, Toll Plaza 81 ramp at milepost 81.9 and the mainline bridge over Waggoner Road at milepost 83.3. Work is under way, with completion expected by Oct. 30, 2026.
Sandusky County — Bridge deck replacement projects include overhead bridges at Yorktown Road at milepost 100.2 and Vickery Road at milepost 101.3. Construction is under way, with completion expected by Dec. 13, 2026.
In addition, truck parking at the Erie Islands Service Plaza at milepost 100 westbound is being expanded with completion expected in July 2026.
Erie County — The eastbound mainline bridge over Portland Road at milepost 109.2 is undergoing deck replacement. Construction is under way and expected to be completed by Nov. 15, 2026. Additional phases include westbound deck replacement in 2027 and repainting in 2028.
Erie, Lorain Counties — A pavement replacement project will address the eastbound lanes from milepost 127.9 to 133.2. The project is ongoing with 2026 construction expected to be completed by Nov. 15, 2026. Westbound pavement replacement is scheduled for 2027.
Lorain County — The overhead bridge at Gore-Orphanage Road at milepost 133.1 is being redecked. The project is under way with an expected completion date of July 2026.
Cuyahoga County — Projects include replacement of westbound pavement from milepost 159.8 to 154.1 with expected completion by Dec. 4, 2026. Additional work includes redecking the mainline bridges over State Route 82 and York Road and redecking the Broadview Road bridge, with an anticipated completion date of Dec. 7, 2027.
A resurfacing project from milepost 164.7 to 169.7 eastbound is under way was expected to be completed by July 27, 2026.
Summit County — Bridge deck replacements include overhead bridges at Toll Plaza 180 at milepost 180.3, Prospect Road at milepost 182.1 and State Route 91 at milepost 183.2. The project is ongoing with completion expected by Nov. 23, 2026.
Summit, Portage Counties — A bridge replacement over Tinkers Creek at milepost 185.6 is ongoing with an expected completion date of Dec. 1, 2026.
Portage County — Repairs to the Page Road overhead bridge at milepost 189.2 are under way with completion expected by Sept. 3, 2026.
Trumbull County — A westbound pavement replacement project from milepost 216.1 to 212.76 is ongoing with completion expected by Dec. 11, 2026.
Mahoning County — Projects include resurfacing from milepost 221.33 to 225.9 with construction scheduled to begin June 15, 2026, and expected to be completed by Nov. 15, 2026. The project will continue into 2027.
Additional work includes eastbound slope repairs at milepost 222.35 with completion expected by Aug. 31, 2026, and replacement of the overhead bridge at U.S. Route 224 at milepost 227.6 with completion expected by Oct. 15, 2026.
