Somerset Steel Erection Company Inc. recently celebrated 50 years in business while ErReR Hill Farms celebrated 50 years of breeding and raising registered Angus cattle.

To mark these events, Somerset Steel hosted a party for employees, customers and business partners on Friday, Aug. 3, 2007, and the farm hosted a Field Day event on Saturday, Aug. 4, 2007, in conjunction with the Pennsylvania Angus and Pennsylvania Cattlemen’s Associations.

Somerset Steel’s party, which was held in Boswell, Pa., was attended by approximately 100 guests who enjoyed music and dinner throughout the afternoon and early evening. Many door prizes were given out and all guests received complimentary gifts. Somerset Steel Erection is a full service industrial contractor and currently employs 85 people.

The ErReR Hill Farms’ event was held at the farm in Friedens and in addition to employees, approximately 300 Angus attended the event, which featured farm tours, tractor square dancers and a junior heifer show.

In addition, speakers were on hand including John Queen, president of the National Cattlemen’s Beef Association. The panel and seminars focused on the state of the Angus industry and other topics relating to the breeding and raising of Angus cattle.

In both their welcoming remarks, Dan Riggs, president of Somerset Steel Erection, and Bob Hay, farm manager, mentioned the company’s founder, Sidney W. Riggs who passed away last September. They paid tribute and commented on how Sidney had looked forward to the 50-year anniversaries of these two divisions. Warren Mostoller, who co-founded Somerset Steel with Sidney, attended the party and was received warmly with a round of applause.

Riggs Industries Inc. is one of the largest family-owned businesses in Somerset County, Pa., and currently employs more than 500 people.

In addition to Somerset Steel Erection and ErReR Hill Farms, the company operates Lincoln Contracting & Equipment, J&J Truck Bodies & Trailers, Lincoln Supply & Equipment, J&J Truck Equipment and James A. Redding Company.
