Two Potain cranes, an Evy 30-23 self-erecting crane and an MDT 259 J12 topless tower crane, are playing a key role in the construction of a new milling facility in Ripamolisani, southern Italy.

The new facility will significantly increase milling capacity and support the continued growth of Italy's agri-food sector. The €30 million project for Mulino Caputo also relied on a Grove GMK5150L-1 all-terrain crane to assemble the Potain MDT 259 J12.

The Potain Evy 30-23 was deployed during the initial phase of construction. Its compact dimensions, rapid assembly and ease of transport enabled contractor Gruppo Mitri Costruzioni (M.B.C.) to accelerate jobsite setup and optimize available space, helping maximize jobsite productivity. With a maximum capacity of 4 t and a 30 m jib, the Evy 30-23 is ideal for projects where fast, efficient deployment and compact dimensions are critical.

As construction progressed, M.B.C. brought in the Potain MDT 259 J12 topless tower. To assemble the crane, the company selected a Grove GMK5150L-1 for its high lifting performance, compact footprint and excellent maneuverability. Featuring a 60 m main boom and maximum capacity of 150 t, the all-terrain crane provided the right combination of mobility, stability, and precision to complete the assembly.

On site, the Potain MDT 259 J12 was erected with a jib of 60 m and at a hook height of 70 m. It immediately got to work on a range of lifting duties, moving large structural components weighing up to 12 t and supporting the installation of key process equipment. The MDT 259 J12 delivers a maximum lifting capacity of 12 t and up to 65 m of jib, making it an ideal choice for demanding infrastructure, industrial, and high-rise construction projects, including those in restricted urban environments.

“The coordinated use of Potain and the Grove cranes on the new Mulino Caputo facility reflects a growing trend on large construction sites for highly specialized lifting technology to improve productivity and operational sustainability,” said Devis Mitri, general manager of M.B.C. “The combination of cranes on this project allowed us to successfully meet operational demands, from the flexibility required during the early stages of construction to the heavy lifting needed during the project's structural phases.”

The new industrial complex will feature high-capacity storage silos, advanced milling systems, raw material processing lines and dedicated packaging and logistics facilities. Scheduled for completion in 2030, the facility is set to become a benchmark for modern milling operations in Europe.
