Razorfish, Inc. the digital solutions provider, has announced that it established the first web presence for Becon, a subsidiary of Bechtel Corporation, one of the world’s largest engineering and construction firms.

Built to serve the information and recruitment needs of the merit shop construction workforce, the site is available at www.beconconstruction.com.

The purpose of the site is to help Becon attract and retain craft workers and streamline the hiring process to keep pace with project demand. A key component of the solution is an online recruitment tool, which allows users to search job postings via criteria such as location or skill set, create a profile, and contact Becon’s recruiters. Craft resource managers can use the tool to post jobs and to search the database of qualified candidates to fill open requisitions and get qualified workers on board more efficiently.

”The new web site should help us to build stronger relationships with the craft and further our mission to be the U.S. construction industry’s employer of choice for the merit shop workforce,’ said Frank Erichson, president of Becon.

Working closely with the Becon teams in Houston and San Francisco, Razorfish conducted user research and stakeholder interviews to identify and prioritize the needs of three target user groups: craft employees, Becon craft resource managers, and Bechtel’s customers. The end result is a user-centered online presence that serves as an information resource on Becon’s history, services and projects. The site further aims to communicate Bechtel’s values and commitment to safety.

”We constructed Becon’s site with the intent of yielding tangible productivity improvements, as well as benefits to the brand – thereby maximizing Becon’s return on investment,’ said Jean Rogers, client partner for Razorfish.

”The informal networks that exist among the craft workforce and resource staff typify the kind of community that can really benefit from a central communication hub,’ said Mark Perlson, project manager for Razorfish. ”We feel we came up with a digital solution that simplifies and streamlines the lines of communications and can increase the response rate from a single posting.’

The Becon project is the latest in a series of current Razorfish projects in the construction industry, including CEMEX, Southern California Roofing, and Parsons Brinckerhoff.

Becon is a subsidiary of Bechtel Corporation, one of the world’s premier engineering, construction, and project management companies. Bechtel had revenue in 2000 of $14.3 billion.
