According to a report recently released by the Massachusetts Department of Transportation, the state faces an annual $1.02 billion budget gap to maintain and upgrade its existing transportation system.

The plan, entitled “The Way Forward: a 2st Century Transportation Plan,” was recently released by state Transportation Secretary Richard Davey. It would require $13 billion in additional revenue over the next decade, more than doubling the state’s current $12 billion transportation budget.
