Back in 1994, Randy Golden got his first glimpse of a side dump trailer and thought of ways it could be improved in its design. Today, Golden’s design, the Sidump’r, is getting a great deal of attention from contractors.
As some of the latest Sidump’r trailers went out this summer, Golden said, “they were immediately calling back and ordering three and four more.”
Sidump’r sold a trailer to Radmacher Brothers Excavating in Kansas City, MO, in the summer of 2001.
“We were doing some work on site where we could really overloaded it and it held up great,” said Tom Radmacher of Radmacher Brothers. “We ordered more [trailers] within a month.”
At the moment, Radmacher is hauling mainly dirt, but uses the trailers to haul concrete.“They work great. They’re the best thing we have going for what we are doing,” said Radmacher.“They’re running right with the belly dumps.”
According to Golden, the lack of a center divider and a single lift cylinder from the bottom of the trailer is what allows for faster cycle times and improved dirt lying experienced by his customers.
“This is not a niche product,” said Golden. “Dirt, sand, ash — whatever you can name, you can haul it.”
Five Sidump’r triple axle trailers with rear lifts were delivered to 71 Construction of Casper, WY, on Sept. 22, 2001. The trailers were specifically purchased for work that 71 Construction does for Envirocon Inc. The project entails hauling contaminated material for a large refinery cleanup operation.
Terry Stone, equipment manager of 71 Construction, had a hand in the decision to purchase the trailers, along with the three owners, after entertaining bids from a number of manufacturers.
According to Golden, he has not been seeing a down side, only up. “Price, quality and design is what has been driving sales,” said Golden, who added that being factory direct is what keeps the price low without sacrificing quality.
Sidump’r will be introducing several new products at ConExpo, including a side dump truck; a pup trailer designed to be pulled along by a truck or trailer in a train configuration; and an auger system for hauling wet concrete for those contractors who need to get the material onto a conveyor.
The company’s 60,000-sq. ft. facility is about 75 mi. west of Sioux City, IA.
