GREENWOOD, Ind. (AP) A site on Interstate 65 in the southern suburbs of Indianapolis has been designated for a new highway interchange.
The site about 10 mi. south of I-465 will be the third interchange connecting Greenwood with the highway. Mayor Charles Henderson said construction is expected to start in 2014, with the city paying about half the estimated $22 million cost out of its revenue from a special taxing district for infrastructure projects.
Henderson told the Daily Journal that he expects the interchange to spur further development in the area.
The new interchange fits with the plan for an east-west corridor to carry traffic from Interstate 74 in Shelby County to the Interstate 69 extension in western Johnson County.
