Skip Walker has been named as the Georgia used equipment manager at Tractor & Equipment Company (TEC).

In addition to his sales duties for the Birmingham, AL-based company, he also assumes responsibility for purchasing used machines, trade-in evaluations and sending machines to auction for all 20 TEC locations throughout Georgia, Alabama and Florida.

Walker has spent his entire career — which started during his high school years — with TEC. In 1972, he started working part-time sweeping floors and emptying garbage cans. Following graduation, he was hired full-time in the parts department.

A few years later, he became one of the company’s first product support sales representatives in a time when the position was a rarity in the industry. He then jumped back into the parts department to help TEC start a parts exporting business.

From 1980 to 1993, Walker worked in the sales department with territories in the Tuscaloosa and Decatur branches.

In 1993, Walker became branch manager at the Mobile, AL, location. Soon after, TEC built a location in Grove Hill, AL, and Pensacola, FL, and Walker’s responsibilities were expanded to include managing all three locations.

In early 2002, after the company purchased Stith Equipment in Georgia, Walker moved to Birmingham, AL, to become the rental fleet manager over all 20 locations. Shortly afterward, was also given the duty of inventory control for attachments, which included more than 3,000 line items.

“I think this is a really good move for me,” Walker said. “It’s yet another challenge for me, which I like, and I’m excited about learning this side of the business.”
