Southeastern Crane recently expanded into the Charleston, SC, area with the opening of a branch office in Ladson. As Grove distributor for the state, Southeastern Crane established the store to fulfill a requirement for the South Carolina dealership.
Southeastern Crane will lease the Ladson facility until a permanent location is determined, noted Vice President Dallas Johnson. "This property should serve us well for the next couple of years until we are able to purchase land and build our own facility," he said. "We have targeted the 'low country' area for its centralized location on the coast between North Carolina and Georgia, where the greatest growth is taking place."
The Ladson facility, located at 9871 U.S. Highway 78 in Ladson, will be staffed by a salesman, parts manager, a secretary and three service technicians. Mike Davis, manager of the Charlotte, NC, branch, will oversee all operations in the Carolina territory.
Southeastern Crane also added the Potain self-erecting tower cranes to its product lines in Florida and South Carolina.
Widely used throughout continental Europe, self-erecting tower cranes are gaining popularity in the United States. With a small footprint, the crane is well suited for short-term construction projects requiring frequent setups and job sites where access is limited.
"The Potain cranes have demonstrated good sales potential in densely populated urban areas. They are a logical complement to the range of cranes we already offer," said Johnson, noting the company is working to expand its crane customer base.
