Stafford Development Company has increased the size of its board from seven to eight and elected John F. Claflin to its membership.

Claflin, a resident of Lexington, Ky., is retired from Link-Belt Construction Equipment Company, where he served for more than 30 years.

During John Claflin’s career at Link-Belt, he had the opportunity to experience both the crane and excavator segments of the equipment industry. With positions in manufacturing, product support, sales and marketing, Claflin has an intricate understanding of running an equipment organization, from the manufacturing side, as well as the distributorship side.

Development and strategic focus have always been hallmarks of Claflin’s career, as he has been at the forefront of formulating strategy. Claflin had developed a worldwide marketing plan for cranes for Sumitomo Construction Machinery Company and also had split the distribution strategy of cranes and excavators for Link-Belt, prior to its reorganization in 1998 and spin off of the excavator product line.

Just prior to retirement from Link-Belt, Claflin served as vice president of corporate development and subsidiary operations, where he focused on the company’s growth potential within the crane industry and its subsidiary operations.

Claflin served as a founding board member of the National Commission for the Certification of Crane Operators (NCCCO), a non-profit organization formed in 1995, to develop effective performance standards for safe crane operation, by providing a thorough, independent assessment of operator knowledge and skills.

Claflin’s desire to promote the industry led him to become a board member, as well as president of the SC&R Foundation, a nonprofit entity established by the Specialized Carriers & Rigging Association (SC&RA), to foster research projects, education and scholarships.

DeNean Stafford, chairman of the board of Stafford Development Company said, “We’re very excited about the addition of John Claflin to our board of directors. With his rich experience in the equipment industry, we know that he will be a tremendous addition to our board.”

“I look forward to serving on the Stafford Development Company board, as I have a great deal of respect for the organization, and how it has grown,” Claflin said. “I’m particularly interested in serving during this time, when Stafford, the equipment company, is experiencing such a high degree of growth and excitement.”
