Stiles Construction Earns 17 Craftsmanship Awards

Stiles Construction’s project team received top honors at the Construction Association of South Florida’s Craftsmanship Awards event on Nov. 6, as the Dolphin Stadium expansion and enhancement project managed by Stiles was named the 2008 Overall Craftsmanship Performed on a Commercial Project award winner. Eight subcontractors also were honored for their work on the Dolphin Stadium expansion.

Craftsmen won an additional eight awards on five other Stiles projects—Trump International Hotel and Tower, Lake Shore Plaza II, Acura of Pembroke Pines, 200 Las Olas Circle and the City of Hollywood/Garfield Street Parking Garage.

Dolphin Stadium—The Overall Craftsman Award recognized excellence in the stadium’s expansion. Stiles Construction’s work included 220,000 sq. ft. of structural expansion and 360,000 sq. ft. of total enclosed space in a second phase. Subcontractors honored in various categories for their craftsmanship on Dolphins Stadium were: concrete, Homestead Paving; decorative ceiling panels, Acousti Engineering Co. of Florida; electrical-lighting, Tri-City Electric; flooring-porcelain tile, Creative Touch Interiors; food service equipment, Baring Industries; glass and glazing, interior, Livers Bronze; mechanical/plumbing piping, J. Dodd Plumbing, and specialties-signage, NW Signs Inc.

Lake Shore Plaza II—A joint venture between Stiles Corporation and WLD Enterprises, the Class A office building is the first-to-market “green” multi-tenant office building in Broward County. Located in Sawgrass International Corporate Park, Sunrise, the 130,000-sq.-ft. building was pre-certified to receive Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certification, from the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC). Subcontractor Gate Precast Co. won a Craftsmanship Award in the Concrete-Precast category and Casale Marble Imports received an award in the Flooring-Stone category.

Trump International Hotel & Tower—This luxury 5-star tower condominium hotel with 298 guest suites deluxe studios, one and two-bedroom suites with oceanfront and intracoastal views on Fort Lauderdale Beach. Awards were given to subcontractors Meisner Electric in the fire alarm system category; Marmol Exports, stonework and Zarella Construction Company for structural metal framing.

200 Las Olas Circle— AutoNation, the largest U.S. automotive retailer, has leased 105,000 sq. ft. at 200 Las Olas Circle for its corporate headquarters in downtown Fort Lauderdale. Developed by a Stiles Corporation partnership, the building’s “Old Chicago” brick architectural style is sensitive to its historic context. 200 Las Olas Circle features 186,516 sq. ft. of class A office space, modern energy and security systems, 17,538 sq. ft. of ground-level retail shops, and six levels of parking. Division Nine Interiors Inc. won a Craftsmanship Award in the drywall and framing category.

City of Hollywood/Garfield Street Parking Garage—The oceanfront redevelopment project includes a community center, 408-space parking garage with oceanfront observation deck and public park on Hollywood’s beachfront. It extends from S.R. A1A east to the beachfront Broadwalk. The exterior design features vibrant contrasting colors, nautical elements, a round elevator and stair tower, as well as finials, solar shades and grilles. Connery Concrete won a Craftsmanship award in the Concrete category.

Acura of Pembroke Pines—Engineered Architectural Systems was honored in the Exterior Metal Panels category.

The 2008 Craftsmanship Awards were presented at the annual CASF dinner at the Signature Grand, Davie. Nominations are submitted by employers, contractors, engineers, architects, and developers.
