Terex Fuchs MHL360 E Boosts Power, Reduces Emissions, Improves Load Cycles

The Terex Fuchs MHL360 E material handler offers the Blue Evolution approach to machine design. Featuring a six-cylinder, 254-hp (190 kW) turbo-charged engine, the MHL360 E offers more power than the D Series, while improving fuel consumption and meeting stringent Tier IVi emissions standards, according to the manufacturer.

The engine and hydraulic system of the new MHL360 E material handler efficiently work together to offer fluid load cycles, resulting in faster operating cycles at increased efficiency. The high-performance hydraulic system features a separate slewing circuit, allowing machine swiveling to quickly start and stop. Offering simultaneous swiveling and lifting functions with precision, the handler is more responsive to operator commands, even when handling heavy loads.

The Terex Fuchs energy recovery feature feeds braking energy back into the main hydraulic pump as the operator slows slewing of the upper structure to reduce load on the engine. This new hydraulic system design of the Terex Fuchs MHL360 E helps to deliver up to 20 percent faster load cycles over the D-Series, according to the manufacturer.

The handler’s environmentally friendly Tier IV interim-compliant engine features exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) technology to reduce emissions compared to previous models. Regeneration of the diesel particulate filter (DPF) occurs automatically, without impacting machine performance. The regeneration process can be temporarily interrupted, if necessary, by pressing an indicator button located on the control panel. Engine start/stop is now push-button controlled to properly manage engine shutdown while under critical load conditions or during DPF regeneration.

A revamped high-performance cooling system keeps the engine operating efficiently, even when working in extreme temperatures. Both the engine and hydraulic system incorporate larger cooling systems, protected by vented panels, to increase airflow. The engine’s new hydraulically powered fan simplifies maintenance and automatically adjusts airflow based on operating conditions to provide efficient cooling.

Controls inside the spacious cab have been updated to improve operator efficiency and comfort. At 23 percent larger than previous designs, the wide video graphics array (WVGA) color display includes an improved high resolution and high contrast screen with an antiglare shield and scratch-resistant coating. Color video of the work area behind the machine is captured by the standard rear-view camera system and shown on the WVGA monitor for easy viewing by the operator. Intuitive controls, including quick-access push buttons for frequently used functions, make for a short learning curve of MHL360 E operation, and the ergonomic multifunction button delivers effortless fingertip navigation through the display screens.

The handler’s hydraulically height-adjustable cab offers a maximum eye-level elevation of up to 20.1 ft. (6.1 m) above ground level and independent forward movement up to 7.2 ft. (2.2 m), making loading and unloading simpler. Its cushioned cab elevation system provides absorption of shocks and jolts for operator comfort. The reinforced cab lift frame mounting fixtures offer increased dynamic performance for the Terex Fuchs MHL360 E.

Servicing the new MHL360 E is simple and fast. The machine’s convenient stow-away ladder offers quick access to the engine, central lubrication system and large area platform of the upper carriage service deck. The handler’s fuel prefilter is now located on top of the fuel tank for easier access. Additional CAN Bus connections expand diagnostic capabilities, so service technicians can quickly identify and address underlying issues.

The purpose-built MHL360 E offers features that deliver high-performance material handling in scrap, recycling, demolition and portside applications. Inverted hydraulic boom cylinder mounting offers protection from debris, while rigid hydraulic pipes located on the stick, boom and undercarriage help better protect against damage. Bearing points on the boom and lift cylinders are reinforced with solid, full-length metal, while increased pin diameters offer improved stability. Steel plates shielding the hydraulic lines at the end of the stick deliver additional protection to improve system reliability. The MHL360 E’s rugged double-row slewing ring design disperses forces over two rows of bearings to improve component service life and durability.
