Terex Utilities is pleased to announce the appointment of Dale Putman, Product Manager, and Jason Julius, Technical Support and Training Development, to a task force charged with developing a drill rig operator certification.

The certification for foundation drill rig operators is being jointly developed by the National Commission for the Certification of Crane Operators (NCCCO) and the International Association of Foundation Drilling (ADSC). The task force is made up of staff from both organizations, along with subject matter experts from equipment manufacturers, suppliers, contractors, engineers, and safety personnel. Over the next 12 to 16 months task force members will develop content based on field experience and best practices.

Putman brings 43 years of experience working for manufacturers of drilling equipment and auger tools. His thorough understanding of the applications and challenges of drilling operations amplifies his ability to serve the Task Force.

Julius previously served on the Digger Derrick Operator Task Force, a certification which NCCCO released in 2012. He was actively involved in developing and maintaining that program.

“Equipment manufacturers have always played a crucial role in the CCO exam process, and NCCCO has been delighted to have received the full support of Terex Utilities from the development of the Digger Derrick Operator certification program in 2010,” said NCCCO Director of Operations, Joel Oliva.  “We are equally gratified to see this support continue through their commitment to the Foundation Drill Rig Task Force effort.”

Terex Utilities will host a Digger Derrick Certification Training Event August 15-18, 2017 in Watertown, S.D. The course provides classroom and hands-on training in preparation for the NCCCO certification exam.

“The ADSC is proud of our partnership with NCCCO to be at the forefront of the drill rig operator certification development process,” said Mike Moore, CEO of ADSC. “The time and effort that our members dedicate to the development of this program is critical to ensuring it sets the industry standard for safety of drill rig operators and quality of the product itself. ADSC member expertise and participation in this task force is immeasurable and we are grateful to those who have stepped up to the plate in an effort to pioneer this process.”

The Certified Foundation Drill Rig Operator program is expected for release in 2018; it will include written and practical exams.
