Three Chicago Companies Join Forces, Expand Fleet

Julie McKevitt, president of Will Rent Inc., Chicago, IL, and Steve Martines, president of Steve’s Equipment Service Inc., West Chicago, IL, and Gary, IN, both Chicagoland providers of equipment rentals, sales and service, have acquired the assets of Portable Tool Sales & Service Inc. The move, said McKevitt, who also is president of Portable Tool Sales & Service, will enable considerable improvements in service and rental fleet expansion.

McKevitt said the three companies complement each other perfectly. “We now have a much larger line of rental equipment from which general contractors, subcontractors and municipal entities can choose.” One of the improvements for Portable Tool Sales & Service Inc. is the addition of the full line of Sullivan-Palatek construction and industrial air compressors.

Each company will continue to operate as a separate business, although they will work as one “to provide a bigger bag of tricks,” McKevitt added.

Will Rent has been in business for 10 years, with revenues of almost $4 million. Steve’s Equipment Service has been in business 30 years, with annual revenues of $20 million. Portable Tool Sales & Service Inc. expects its annual revenue to be $7 million.

The acquisition of Portable Tool Sales & Service Inc. necessitated a streamlining of its former base of operation. Its offices in Villa Park and Springfield, IL, were closed and expansion is being planned at its two existing Illinois sites in Riverdale and McHenry.

The consolidation will enable Portable Tool Sales & Service Inc. to serve a large area of Illinois and Indiana with an expanded rental and sales fleet.

“Customers who have been doing business with Portable Tool Sales & Service Inc. can continue to do so,” McKevitt explained. “Portable Tool’s philosophy will be the same as that of Will Rent and Steve’s Equipment Service — the highest level of product and service possible.”
