Track & Tire Inc. and its rental division, CRS (Contractors’ Rental & Supply Inc.) have recently expanded into the Savannah, GA, area with a Richmond Hill branch. Cocoa, FL-based Track & Tire has been buying and selling used equipment since April 1994, and in early 1999 the company purchased CRS. This newest location, a 1.5-acre yard and office, will better serve customers from southern Georgia to central Florida.

Regarding the Richmond Hill branch, Sal D’Amato, executive vice president of Track & Tire, said, “It seemed like a logical move to us.”

Track & Tire boasts a $6-million fleet of rental and sale equipment and roughly 130 machines in stock. Caterpillar, Komatsu and Gehl are just a few of the manufacturers that the company has in inventory. Loaders, dozers, off-road dumps and payhaulers also can be found in stock. CRS rents a wide variety of equipment from light sets and skid steers to big excavators such as a Cat 345 BL outfitted with a 5-yd. (4.6 m) bucket.

D’Amato explained that Track & Tire is diversified in that it buys used equipment to sell, rent or lease. The company also had three field service mechanics who operate three $80,000 to $90,000 service trucks equipped with cranes, compressors and welders. The mechanics are able to perform various tasks at job sites using these trucks, including making their own hydraulic hoses. Two transport drivers also are employed to deliver equipment to customers.

Track & Tire’s customer base consists of general contractors, many construction or mining businesses, and highway and underground contractors.

D’Amato maintains that the key to success if flexibility.

“Since we’re a small company, we can be a little more creative with financing and structuring,” said D’Amato. “Also, service the customers — that’s the key to it.”

In addition to the Cocoa and Richmond Hill locations, Track & Tire has a branch on Turks and Caicos Island in the Bahamas. D’Amato believes that the company will probably open another location in northern Florida in the future. Track & Tire also has a Tropical Marine Services division in Fort Canaveral, FL, that performs diesel engine repowers, maintenance and repairs, and rebuilds.
