Wed August 18, 2010 - Midwest Edition

Tractors for Charity — an organization to promote the antique tractor, truck and construction equipment hobby — will be hold its annual event Sept. 18 and 19 at Stade’s Farm & Market, 3709 Miller Rd., McHenry, Ill., from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The event, which was first organized by Andrea and Darick Franzen, of Plote Construction Inc., Hoffman Estates, Ill., brings together local business people, family, friends and collectors from all over Illinois and Wisconsin to raise funds for local charities.

Tractors for Charity features antique tractors, trucks and construction equipment that showcase the pieces of equipment that provide the rich agricultural history and the modern industrialization that is enjoyed today. The two-day event also will include numerous family activities, a petting zoo, food and craft vendors, toy vendors and hay rides.

Sponsors for this year’s event includes Patten Equipment, West Side Tractor, Casey Equipment, Plote Construction, Curran Contracting, Peter Baker & Son, Schroeder Asphalt, and Home Towne Electric.

So far, Tractors for Charity has raised more than $55,000 with most of the proceeds going to the FISH of McHenry Food Pantry, an organization that provides needy families in the McHenry and Johnsburg school districts with food, necessities and support. Tractors for Charity also supports Big Brothers and Big Sisters and the Pioneer Center.

A “Show N Shine” event will take place Sept. 19 at 11 a.m. Local company owners of show trucks and independents are encouraged to bring their big rigs and display them to the public. Tractors for Charity is looking to make this the largest truck show in the Chicagoland area.
