Ohio 424 between U.S. 24 and Ohio 66/Ohio 111 at the west edge of Defiance will close for six weeks.

Construction began March 31.

The closure is related to construction of a relocated and expanded U.S. 24 in Paulding, Defiance and Henry counties.

As part of the project, the relocation of a 1-mi. (1.6 km) section of Ohio 424 began last year.

The relocation is necessary in order to construct a new interchange between Ohio 424 and new U.S. 24.

The closure will allow the final connection to be made from existing Ohio 424 to the relocated portion.

“Once the connection is complete, traffic will be placed onto the new section which will allow construction of the interchange to continue,” said Tim Burkepile, Ohio Department of Transportation District 1 deputy director.

In addition, work to relocate a portion of Stevens Ditch also will take place during the closure.

Traffic will be detoured onto U.S. 24 and Ohio 281 back to Ohio 424.

Work on this portion of the U.S. 24 project is being performed through a joint venture between E.S. Wagner, Oregon, and Anthony Allega Cement Contractor, Valley View.
