The Reno-Tahoe Airport Authority (RTAA) joined elected officials, community leaders, airline partners and construction teams on March 3, 2026, to celebrate breaking ground on its new concourses – a major step forward in the airport's ongoing expansion.
"Today's groundbreaking of the New Gen A&B Concourses marks a defining moment for our airport and our region," said Cris Jensen, RTAA interim president/CEO. "This milestone means every project in our MoreRNO Infrastructure Program is now either complete or actively in progress."
The New Gen A&B Concourses project is a $650 million investment that will modernize and nearly double the size of the airport's existing concourses. Backed by a 10-year lease agreement with signatory airlines, the project includes a 100 percent gate replacement with common-use flexibility to accommodate aircraft of all sizes.
Designed in partnership with McCarthy Building Cos. and Gensler, the project reflects a strong collaboration between owner, builder and architect to deliver a best-in-class facility for the region, according to the RTAA.
Enhancements include upgraded travel technology, improved wayfinding and signage, expanded hold rooms, concessions and amenities, improved restroom facilities and dual taxi lanes between concourses to support quicker aircraft turnaround times.
The concourses will feature a modern mountain aesthetic with expansive views of the surrounding Sierra Nevada, creating a welcoming sense of place for travelers.
Construction will begin in phases, starting with Concourse A, and will deliver lasting benefits for passengers, airlines, tenants and airport employees alike. Both concourses are expected to be complete by late 2029.
