West Side Tractor is currently expanding its Wauconda, IL, facility to accommodate its growing customer base.

Tom Benck, West Side Tractor vice president, estimated that the company will spend approximately $1.5 million on the project.

“We have been growing substantially over the past few years and need more room,” said Benck.

West Side Tractor has been using the Wauconda facility since 1984

“We’ve acquired close to three acres of additional property and that is what we’re building our current new shop on,” said Benck. “The new shop that we’re building is for the future. We conducted spec comparisons before expansion began so we could match our facility to the growing line of equipment we currently carry.”

To account for the size of the equipment, the ceilings of the new facility will reach 34 ft. (10.4 m). With 16-ft. (4.9 m) wide doors, West Side Tractor will be able to fit a 94-ton (85 t) excavator along with a 9-yd. (8.2 m) wheel loader inside.

“The new addition will include a full-service welding bay. We’ll be doing larger equipment repairs. We’re set up to repair a wide variety of construction equipment,” said Benck.

The old facility only had three service bays, but the new service department will offer 10 full-service bays.

“We’re more than doubling the size of the shop for the capacity of the service center,” said Benck.

West Side tractor also will be expanding its parts warehouse and office space. “From front to back, our entire facility will be completely renovated and expanded,” said Benck.

“Over the years, customers have made a substantial investment in us and now we want to return the favor and make sure we can service their equipment the best we can,” he added. “That’s our motivation.”

In addition to the new expansion, West Side Tractor also has a new product support salesman, Nik Gray, who is working with the service department.
