WHEELING, W.Va. (AP) Renovation of the Wheeling Tunnel’s westbound tube is expected to be completed in October 2010.

The state Division of Highways awarded a $6.7 million contract for the project June 25 to Ahern and Associates of Charleston, which submitted the lowest bid.

Highways spokesman Brent Walker said a pre-construction meeting will be held within a few weeks.

Walker said the project is expected to be suspended from Nov. 1 until Jan. 15 to accommodate holiday traffic.

Work on the tunnel’s eastbound tube was completed last fall after an 18-month delay caused by construction problems. The contractor for that project submitted a $7.3 million bid for the westbound tube.
