The National Work Zone Safety Information Clearinghouse has launched a new print ad campaign featuring Federal Highway Administrator Victor Mendez and transportation leaders delivering messages about the importance of improving safety in roadway construction zones.

American Road & Transportation Builders Association (ARTBA) Chairman Bill Cox, a highway contractor from Maryland and president of Corman Construction, appears in a second public service announcement (PSA).

In the full-color ads, a prominent photo of Mendez is juxtaposed with text that reads: “FHWA Administrator Victor Mendez knows safety on the job saves lives down the road. That’s why he recognizes the importance of the National Work Zone Safety Information Clearinghouse.” The headline in the second reads: “Highway contractor Bill Cox wants all his employees on the road to safety.”

Both PSAs are aimed at boosting awareness and use of the Clearinghouse by highlighting the facility’s webinars, laws and regulations, statistics, training, public education and best practice materials that are available at www.workzonesafety.org. They will run in leading construction industry publications, and can also be seen on the Clearinghouse Web site. Other ads with state transportation officials and traffic safety industry executives are being developed.

Several new informational job site posters produced by the Clearinghouse are also available. They are designed to educate workers on flagging best practices, work zone sign recognition and use, among others. A popular poster “Know the Blind Spots” was developed with the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) to address worker awareness around large construction vehicles, a common work place accident situation.
