Workers Rescued After Scaffold Gives Way

Authorities say two workers were rescued after they were left hanging from the side of an eight-story building.

RICHMOND, Va. (AP) - Richmond authorities say two workers were rescued after they were left hanging from the side of an eight-story building when scaffolding gave way.

Media outlets report that the incident happened Friday morning at the VCU Children’s Pavilion, which is under construction.

Richmond Battalion Fire Chief Jeffrey Currie says the workers were on the type of platform used by window washers when one end gradually gave way. He said the workers were left hanging by their safety harnesses and ropes and were rescued by co-workers. One of the workers was taken to a hospital as a precaution.

The VCU Children’s Pavilion will consolidate outpatient pediatrics services from across the VCU medical campus into one building.
