The Zaxis 350LC-3 replaces the Hitachi Zaxis 330LC and Zaxis 370 excavators. Powered by Isuzu’s new 6-cylinder Tier-III-certified engine, the 350LC-3 performs more like its larger production-sized siblings.

The Zaxis 350LC-3 weighs 77,269 lb. (35,049 kg) and comes standard with a 13-ft., 1-in. (4 m) arm, a 16,314-lb. (7,400 kg) counterweight, and 32-in. (81 cm) triple semi-grouser shoes. Other arm lengths are optionally available.

Powering the 350LC-3 is Isuzu’s new AH-6HK1YSA-01 Tier-III-certified engine, with a rated power of 271 net peak hp (202 kW) at 1,900 rpm.

The engine improves fuel efficiency and output primarily through a common-rail fuel-injection system and the cooled Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) system. The P Mode increases production; the new E mode can reduce fuel consumption.

Working in tandem with the engine is Hitachi’s new HIOS III hydraulic system, formulated to specifically match the Isuzu’s torque curve. Combined operations such as boom-up, arm-in, bucket-curl, and travel are smooth and powerful. Swing torque, traction force, and digging force have all been increased.

Largest in its class, the CRES II cab has a wider, more comfortable seatback, more foot room, and 47 percent more glass on the right side. Pedals have been reshaped and the new color LCD multifunction monitor is multilingual.

From the seat, the operator can make simple oil flow adjustments for attachments, monitor 32 items and track maintenance for 14 items. Short-throw, low-effort levers result in fingertip control.

Dash-3 improvements also extend to the undercarriage and upperstructure. Track links are thicker and three track guards are provided to protect the track links from disengagement during steering. The track chain is sealed and lubricated.

The upperstructure continues with Hitachi’s signature D-section frame skirt to increase rigidity. At the arm-bucket joint, the arm top is hardened with tungsten-carbide thermal spraying for wear resistance at its contact surface with the bucket.
