Mark Callaway, supervisor of the fluid analysis laboratory at Yancey Bros. Co., has recently been accredited by the Society of Tribologists and Lubrication Engineers (STLE) with its “Oil Monitoring Analyst I” certification. Callaway’s accreditation makes Yancey the fourth Caterpillar dealer fluid lab in the United States to achieve this high level of recognition. Yancey’s lab also has been recognized as an “Images of Excellence” fluid analysis lab, the highest certification awarded by Caterpillar to its dealer laboratories.

Callaway joined Yancey Bros. Co. in October 1997 to oversee the day-to-day operations of the Fluid Analysis Laboratory. He has more than 28 years in the fluid analysis industry, including nine as a fuels technician with a major oil company. Professionally, Callaway has been an active member of the STLE for 15 years. He has held several offices, including membership chairman, secretary and assistant treasurer.

Since coming to Yancey three years ago, Callaway has helped grow the capacity of the lab by 50 percent as well as increased the scope of the tests performed. Along with this volume increase has come a need for expanded lab space. Callaway and his staff will be moving into a new facility in January that will allow for expansion of the lab in the coming years.

The Society of Tribologists and Lubrication Engineers was founded in 1944 to advance the science and technology of lubrication (tribology). STLE membership includes more than 4,000 individual and corporate members who represent interdisciplinary technical professions from industry, academic institutions and government around the globe. The STLE’s “Oil Monitoring Analyst I” certification is reserved for individuals who conduct first echelon oil monitoring and analysis, as it applies to lubrication analysis and machine condition monitoring. It further certifies the individual is capable of overseeing the routine operation of an oil analysis program.
