Caltrans began the project to improve Interstate 215 (I-215) through San Bernardino Jan. 2.

The work includes new bridges at Inland Center Drive and Mill Street, wider bridges over Warm Creek and Lytle Creek, drainage improvements and new north and southbound lanes. Aesthetic designs will be added to new retaining walls and sound walls throughout the project.

San Bernardino Associated Governments (SANBAG) began its portion of the project in mid-2007.

The entire project will expand and upgrade I-215 from Interstate 10 to State Route 210.

The $700 million project is expected to be complete in 2012.
