Caterpillar Inc. has completed its acquisition of John Fabick Tractor Company (Fabick), a longtime Cat dealer serving portions of Missouri and Illinois, all of Wisconsin and Michigan's Upper Peninsula.

The acquisition, announced Nov. 2, 2026, follows an agreement reached between the companies in September.

The transaction brings a dealership with more than a century of customer service and equipment support under Caterpillar's ownership. Fabick operates 37 locations throughout its territory, providing equipment sales, parts, service, rentals and power systems solutions to customers in construction, agriculture, mining, paving, forestry and other industries.

“Fabick customers have come to expect outstanding service and support, and completion of this acquisition ensures that commitment will continue,” said Joe Creed, Caterpillar chairman and CEO.

Following the closing, Steve Ferguson, Caterpillar senior vice president, was appointed CEO and dealer principal of Fabick. Ferguson joined Caterpillar in 1990 and has held positions in mining, power and energy, finance and operations. He most recently served as senior vice president of Caterpillar's Industrial Power Systems Division.

“Fabick has built deep customer relationships, an experienced team and a strong commitment to the communities it serves,” Ferguson said. “I look forward to building on that momentum as we begin this next chapter — working together to support our customers, create opportunities for our employees and carry Fabick's proud legacy forward.”

Founded more than 100 years ago, Fabick Cat grew from a single St. Louis location with three employees into an operation with 37 locations and more than 1,400 employees. The dealership has remained family-operated through multiple generations, with members of the Fabick family involved in its leadership.

Fabick supports construction, demolition, agriculture, forestry, mining, paving and road building, quarry and aggregates, waste and other markets.

The dealership's product support capabilities include 200 service bays equipped with overhead cranes, lubrication lines and specialized repair equipment. Its field service operation also includes more than 250 service vehicles, allowing technicians to perform equipment repairs and maintenance at customer job sites.

Fabick Cat provides preventive maintenance, electronic diagnostics, major repairs, hydraulic system work, undercarriage service, hose repair and machine rebuilds. Its parts operation supplies new, used and remanufactured components for Cat and other equipment brands.

The company also operates Fabick Cat Rentals, offering a range of construction equipment and support equipment, including excavators, dozers, skid steer loaders, wheel loaders, compactors, telehandlers, aerial lifts, generators and light towers. Its power systems business provides equipment and services for customers requiring emergency and temporary power solutions.

The acquisition continues Caterpillar's relationship with a dealership that has supported customers throughout the Midwest for more than a century. Caterpillar said the ownership transition is intended to maintain the service, local support and customer relationships established by Fabick while providing continuity for employees and customers.
