Caterpillar Inc. recently donated the 5,000th Caterpillar excavator manufactured in China to The People’s Government of Beijing Municipality.
The Cat 320C excavator is expected to work in a wide range of construction projects from now through the 2008 Summer Olympic Games. Caterpillar’s authorized dealer in Beijing, WesTrac China, will provide service support to keep the excavator in peak working condition throughout construction.
Caterpillar Vice President Stu Levenick presented the historic excavator to the Deputy Secretary General of The People’s Government of Beijing Municipality, Yan Zhongqui.
"Caterpillar has been firmly committed to growing our business and acting as a good corporate citizen in this great country since we first came to China more than 20 years ago," Levenick said. "It’s an honor for Caterpillar to help make this historic Olympiad a reality through the hard work of our world- class equipment."
Caterpillar recently reached a milestone as Caterpillar Xuzhou Ltd. (CXL) celebrated production of the 5,000th Cat excavator in China. Founded in 1994, Caterpillar Xuzhou is a joint venture between Caterpillar Inc. and China’s largest construction equipment manufacturer, Xuzhou Construction Machinery Group Co.
Recognizing CXL’s achievement, Levenick said, "The production of the 5,000th hydraulic excavator is an important milestone for Caterpillar Xuzhou, and it confirms two things -- outstanding vision and excellent execution by committed people. It shows the increasing popularity of world-class Cat excavators. And it also reaffirms Caterpillar’s commitment in this very important market."
The 5,000th excavator is a Cat 320C featuring commemorative markings to celebrate the milestone. With an operating weight of 44,000 lbs. (20,000 kg) and 138 hp, the 320C is a workhorse in the construction and road building industries.
