CCS Equipment is entering a new chapter as Todd Snyder and Logan Davis take ownership of the company their fathers helped build from the ground up in 1998.

The family-owned dealership, based in Youngsville, N.C., has grown from a small startup operating above an ice cream parlor into a three-location equipment dealer serving customers across central and eastern North Carolina.

Today, CCS Equipment operates locations in Youngsville, Angier and Ayden and is recognized as a leading Takeuchi dealer. In 2025, the company was named Takeuchi Dealer of the Year, an achievement that reflects performance across sales, service, parts support and customer satisfaction.

“We run the business hands-on,” Snyder said. “We are able to answer questions and take care of any issues that pop up pretty quickly.”

Company Built On Relationships

CCS Equipment was founded in July 1998 by Charlie Snyder, Charles Davis and Steve Jeffries. The company's name comes from the founders' first initials.

The three partners had worked together previously in another equipment-related business and decided to start their own dealership using the industry contacts they had built over the years.

“They wanted to go out there and do something on their own with their contacts,” Snyder said.

The founders bought and repaired used equipment, eventually establishing a connection to import used excavators from Japan.

“That's kind of where it all took off from,” Snyder said. “They were able to use their contacts and reach out to a lot of utility contractors originally. That was kind of the base of their business.”

CCS Equipment transitioned into selling new equipment shortly after its founding. The company initially became a Gehl dealer and later added Takeuchi equipment in 2000.

Snyder recalled hearing that the original Takeuchi dealership agreement was signed in the back of a pickup truck in a grocery store parking lot, a story that illustrates the entrepreneurial spirit behind the company's early growth.

Next Generation

Snyder and Davis both grew up around the equipment business and eventually joined CCS Equipment after gaining experience in other roles.

Snyder attended North Carolina State University and worked for a large textile company before returning to the equipment industry. He joined CCS Equipment in 1999, beginning in outside sales.

“These guys approached me and said they were looking to put somebody on the road,” Snyder said. “That's where I started with CCS.”

Davis joined the company in 2005 after deciding the equipment industry was the right fit for him.

“I had a passion for sales and the equipment industry and being able to work with my father I found that as a blessing,” said Davis.

Before moving into outside sales, Davis worked in several operational roles at CCS Equipment, including washing equipment, delivering rental equipment and working in the parts department.

Those experiences gave him a broad understanding of the dealership's operations and customer needs.

Expanding Across North Carolina

As the company grew, CCS Equipment expanded beyond its Youngsville headquarters.

The second branch opened in Angier in 2015.

The third branch opened in Ayden in 2020, extending the company's reach into eastern North Carolina near Greenville.

The expansion has allowed CCS Equipment to provide equipment sales, parts and service support to a broader customer base while maintaining its family-oriented approach.

Takeuchi Dealer of the Year

CCS Equipment's recognition as Takeuchi Dealer of the Year in 2025 was a significant milestone for the dealership.

According to Snyder and Davis, the award is based on a wide range of performance criteria, not simply total sales volume.

The dealership exceeded targets related to market share, year-over-year parts growth, sales training, marketing investment and technician training.

Takeuchi also evaluates dealers on warranty claim processing, service support and the ability to sell a broad range of equipment models to different customer segments.

“It's pretty comprehensive,” Snyder said. “They want you to hit all the models they offer throughout the year and serve a broad range of customers.”

Davis added that the award reflects the efforts of the entire CCS Equipment team.

“Good people. That's really what it comes down to. We have a customer base and people here who care about taking care of those customers.”

Focus On Customer Relationships

North Carolina's growing construction market has created opportunities for equipment dealers throughout the region, and CCS Equipment has expanded alongside that growth.

Snyder said the dealership's size allows employees to respond quickly when customer needs arise.

“Our boat turns pretty quickly,” he said. “We can adjust and address customer issues promptly.”

Davis said the company also strives to maintain open communication with customers when issues occur.

“We're trying to be as fair as we can be to both sides,” he said.

One customer relationship that stands out for Davis dates back to the years following the 2008-09 recession, when a retaining wall contractor purchased several new machines from CCS Equipment.

“That was a big deal to us,” Davis said. “It breathed some life into the company.”

Fifteen years later, the contractor remains one of the dealership's long-term customers, and Davis said the relationship helped CCS Equipment expand into additional market segments beyond its traditional utility contractor base.

Service, Parts Support

CCS Equipment offers sales, parts and full service at all three locations and maintains a fleet of service trucks that support customers in the field.

The company has invested in developing younger technicians, many of whom are in their mid- to late-20s.

“We're willing to make the investment if we believe we can turn them into a good technician,” Davis said.

That investment has helped CCS Equipment build a service team with both technical experience and familiarity with the dealership's customers and equipment lines.

The company also maintains a substantial parts inventory to reduce equipment downtime.

“We have as high a fill rate as we can,” Snyder said. “Our software system helps us track what parts we are selling and make sure we keep important items in stock.”

For Takeuchi equipment, CCS Equipment also can access parts through the manufacturer's distribution network in Pendergrass, Ga., allowing the dealership to obtain parts quickly when they are not available locally.

“We jump on the phone and make something happen,” Davis said. “The goal is to get our customers taken care of and keep them from being down for long.”

Looking Ahead

In addition to new equipment sales, CCS Equipment remains active in the used equipment market, particularly through trade-ins from its existing customer base.

“There's a big appetite for the used market right now,” Snyder said. “We're pretty aggressive on the trade-ins.”

As the new owners, Snyder and Davis are continuing to explore opportunities for growth while remaining focused on improving the company's operations and customer support.

“We're always looking for a way to be better.”

For CCS Equipment, the transition to second-generation ownership represents both continuity and opportunity. The company remains rooted in the relationships and service philosophy established by its founders, while positioning itself for continued growth in North Carolina's expanding construction equipment market.
