David Spooner, U.S. Department of Commerce’s assistant secretary of Import Administration, and Patrick Tiberi, U.S. Congressman, Ohio-12, visited the corporate headquarters of Screen Machine Industries Inc. Nov. 3. The visit included discussions about the benefits of trade to the U.S. and Ohio economies and the American Competitiveness Agenda.

Spooner oversees the department’s Import Administration (IA), which ensures a level playing field for America’s industries in the competitive global market, enforces laws and agreements to prevent unfairly traded imports and safeguards jobs and the competitive strength of American industry.

Following the briefing, Spooner presented an Export Achievement Certificate to Screen Machine Industries Inc. for making its first export sale and expanding into new international markets. The award recognizes U.S. companies that have benefited from export services of the Department’s U.S. Commercial Service to make their first export sale or expand into new foreign markets.

Tiberi then presented the company a Congressional Proclamation in honor of the Export Achievement Certificate.

State Sen. Jay Hottinger, Licking County Commissioners Marcia Phelps and Doug Smith were on hand. In addition, Etna Township Trustees Gary Burkholder, Paul George and Dick Knapp were among local officials who attended the ceremony.

According to Screen Machine Industries Inc. President Steve Cohen, Sales Representative Timothy Miller had been instrumental in developing international business for the Screen Machine. Miller explained that the company’s recent move to a new building has increased manufacturing capacity and expanded design and engineering facilities. The increased production has allowed Screen Machine to position itself to capitalize on international opportunities.

Cohen further explained that the equipment that goes into making their machines are produced in house by American workers and the components used are produced by leading U.S. manufacturers from Caterpillar engine to Dodge Bearings.

Screen Machine Industries Inc., founded more than 40 years ago, is one of the largest manufacturers of portable crushing, screening and shredding plants, trommels and radial stacking conveyors in North America with dealers located around the world.
