The Manitowoc Company Inc. was recently featured in a Forbes magazine article on the manufacturers of "some of America’s most impressive heavy machinery."

In a six-page article entitled "Big Metal" in the November 27, 2000 issue of Forbes, one of the company’s Model 21000 liftcranes, sold to All Erection & Crane Rental Corp., was pictured lifting a 300,000 lb. load at a Nebraska power plant. The article focused on America’s capital-intensive heavy industries and how technological product advancements are key to success in this $140 billion manufacturing sector, which employs 1.4 million people.

"We are delighted to have one of our company’s premier products featured so prominently in Forbes. All of our employees can be justly proud that they manufacture the finest crane products in the world, bar none" stated Manitowoc’s president and chief executive officer Terry D. Growcock.

"This article makes the case that American manufacturing skills are a vital national resource. Large-scale manufactured products generate a very high economic multiplier, and skilled manufacturing jobs provide an excellent livelihood for millions of Americans and their families. With the recent market emphasis on the service sectors of our economy, it is important to note that a strong U.S. manufacturing base is a key to maintaining our nation’s high standard of living" concluded Growcock.
