Flatiron Constructors to Build New Minn. Bridge

- National Edition

The joint venture of Flatiron Constructors of Longmont, Colo., and Manson Construction of Seattle, Wash., has been selected as the firm to rebuild the I-35W bridge in downtown Minneapolis. The winning proposal was determined using the state’s design-build, best value procurement model which combines a technical proposal score with a pricing component. In this instance, an A plus B provision was also incorporated into the formula requiring proposers to bid a total number of days to complete the project with each day being valued at $200,000.

Flatiron Constructors was awarded the highest technical proposal score (91.47), bid the highest price ($233,763,000) and also included the greatest number of days (437) to complete the project.

Three other bids were reviewed.

The least expensive price proposal came from Ames/Lunda ($178,489,561), the firm that also received the lowest technical score (55.98). C.S. McCrossan bid $176.9 million and received a score of 65.91 and Walsh Construction/American Bridge bid $219 million with a score of 67.88
