Hitachi Global Air Power, has been awarded the Community Impact Award from the Indiana Manufacturers Association (IMA).

This award was presented at IMA's 2026 Manufacturing Day Celebration as part of its Indiana Manufacturing Excellence Awards, recognizing the company's commitment to environmental stewardship and community investment.

The Community Impact Award honors manufacturers whose leadership and dedication create meaningful change in their local communities and states. It acknowledges organizations that exemplify the spirit of service, generosity and civic engagement.

“It's truly an honor to be recognized for our efforts that support local beautification, sustainability, and the communities of Michigan City and the surrounding region,” said Hideki Fujimoto, president and CEO of Hitachi Global Air Power. “Strong communities are built through partnership and service, and we believe businesses have an important role to play. We're proud to call Michigan City home for more than six decades and grateful to be part of its story and its future.”

The award highlights several community-focused initiatives led by Hitachi Global Air Power, including a native plant restoration project at its headquarters, woodland restoration efforts at Friendship Botanic Gardens, and the donation of a large-scale public mural celebrating Michigan City's heritage and community spirit.

Native Plant Restoration

At its Michigan City headquarters, Hitachi Global Air Power is converting nearly seven acres of traditional turf grass into a native prairie ecosystem as part of a five-year restoration effort. The project reduces emissions and water usage by eliminating routine mowing and irrigation, while creating habitat for pollinators, supporting wildlife and improving soil health, according to Hitachi. This effort is supported by the LaPorte County Soil and Water Conservation District through a Clean Water Indiana grant.

Woodland Restoration at Friendship Botanic Gardens

Hitachi Global Air Power also launched a five-year effort to restore a critical woodland ecosystem at Friendship Botanic Gardens in Pottawattamie Park, Ind. Supported in part by the LaPorte County Soil and Water Conservation District through a Clean Water Indiana grant, the project enhances biodiversity, improves ecological health and creates a new public experience, according to the company.

Mural Donation

To commemorate the company's 60th anniversary in Michigan City, Hitachi Global Air Power donated a large-scale mural spanning eight retaining walls. The artwork celebrates the city's rich industrial heritage, vibrant community spirit and enduring partnership between the company and the community it has called home for more than 60 years.
