YANKTON, S.D. (AP) An Iowa company apparently submitted the low bid to build a bridge over the Missouri River at Yankton.

Jensen Construction of Des Moines bid $23.9 million for the project when bids were opened May 2 at the Department of Roads in Lincoln, Neb.

Jim Black, chairman of the Building Yankton’s Bridge Committee, said the South Dakota Department of Transportation has worked with Jensen Construction in the past and expects no roadblocks to awarding the contract.

Work is expected to start in June with completion in winter 2009. The bridge will replace the double-decker Meridian Bridge that was built in 1924.
