John Deere announced the three finalists in its Building America contest on July 4, 2026, during the John Deere Classic, a premier PGA golf tournament. This nationwide contest celebrates contractors, operators and construction businesses helping build stronger communities across the United States. The grand prize winner will receive a New Generation John Deere P-Tier mid-size excavator of their choice.

Inspired by America's 250th Anniversary and launched at ConExpo-CON/AGG 2026, the contest invited participants to share their stories through video submissions highlighting how they are helping build America today and how they would use a new John Deere P-Tier mid-size excavator to build America for tomorrow.

After reviewing many notable submissions from dedicated industry members across the country, John Deere selected three finalists whose businesses, community impact and vision for the future stood out among a highly competitive field:

  • Nick Long — Chamberlain Backhoe Service (California)
  • Caleb Lovett — Wolf Creek Land Co. (Tennessee)
  • Patrick Rector — Rector Excavating Inc. (Kentucky)

"These finalists represent the dedication, craftsmanship and entrepreneurial spirit that drive the construction industry forward every day," said Jon Gilbeck, manager, customer success and excavator marketing, John Deere. "Their stories demonstrate the meaningful role contractors play in strengthening communities, creating opportunities and building the infrastructure that supports our future. We're excited to share their stories and invite the public to help choose the winner."

The three finalists will now advance to the public voting period, which starts on Aug. 17, 2026, where anyone can vote to help determine the contest winner. The grand prize recipient will receive a New Generation John Deere P-Tier mid-size excavator of their choosing to support the work they do to build their communities.

Remaining key contest dates:

  • Public voting window: Aug. 17-31, 2026
  • Winner announced: Sept. 8, 2026
