With a net 177 hp (132 kW), Komatsu’s PC240LC-11 hydraulic excavator is powered by a Komatsu SAA6D107E-3B engine and is EPA Tier IV Final emissions certified.

Komatsu’s Tier IV Final engines are built on a solid foundation that started in 1996 with the introduction of Komatsu’s Tier I engines. The resulting benefit today is a Tier IV Final engine that is productive, dependable and efficient. This new excavator leverages Komatsu’s leadership in technology and innovation by delivering a more environmentally friendly engine that provides high levels of performance while reducing fuel consumption and operating costs, according to the manufacturer.

With an operating weight range between 54,490 lbs. (24,716 kg) and 55,129 lbs. (25,006 kg), the PC240LC-11 features improved efficiency, lower fuel consumption, improved operator comfort, and enhanced serviceability to maximize productivity while lowering operating costs.

The PC240LC-11 is equipped with the latest KOMTRAX remote monitoring technology with data access via the web or via KOMTRAX Mobile on a smart phone. In addition to providing data such as fuel levels, operating hours, location, cautions and maintenance alerts, KOMTRAX has been further enhanced to monitor AdBlue/DEF levels, ambient air temperatures and pressures. A new operator identification system reports key operating information for multiple operators. A new auto idle shutdown function helps improve operating costs by reducing unnecessary idle time.

Special features of the new PC240LC-11 include:

• Komatsu EPA Tier IV Final Emission Certified Engine — Productive, Dependable, Efficient

Komatsu’s EPA Tier IV Final engines are built on the strength of its Tier IV Interim foundation. By integrating selective catalyst reduction (SCR), the Tier IV Final engine further reduces NOx emissions using AdBlue/DEF. The Komatsu Tier IV Final engine uses an advanced electronic control system to manage the air-flow rate, fuel injection, combustion parameters, and after treatment functions to optimize performance, reduce emissions, and provide advanced diagnostic capability. The result is lower fuel consumption with no loss of performance. Komatsu continues to use a Komatsu variable geometry turbocharger (KVGT) and an exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) valve for more precise temperature and air management control as well as longer component life.

To ensure product reliability and durability in demanding conditions, Komatsu developed the entire system, including the control software which is critical to the effective operation of the aftertreatment system. This control system also is integrated into the machine’s on-board diagnostics systems and KOMTRAX, Komatsu’s standard telematics system.

• Highly Efficient Hydraulic System

All major components on the new PC240LC-11 including the engine, hydraulic pumps, motors, and valves are exclusively designed and produced by Komatsu. This integrated design uses a closed center load sensing hydraulic system which has taken hydraulic efficiency to the next level using variable speed matching technology. Variable speed matching allows the engine speed to adjust based on the hydraulic pump output for both light and heavy-duty applications. Additional enhancements have been made within the hydraulic system to reduce hydraulic loss, resulting in better efficiency.

• Operator Environment

The PC240LC-11 cab provides a comfortable and quiet work environment to help operators maximize productivity. The ROPS certified cab specifically designed for hydraulic excavators gains strength from a reinforced box structure framework. The cab is mounted on viscous isolation dampers that help limit low vibration levels. It features a standard air suspension high back seat with newly designed fully adjustable armrests and heat for improved comfort is also included. In addition to the standard radio, there is an auxiliary input for connecting external devices to play music through stereo cab speakers. Additionally there are two 12-volt power ports incorporated into the cab. Optional joysticks are available with proportional controls for operating attachments.

A high resolution 7 in. LCD color monitor features enhanced capabilities and the operator can easily select up to six working modes to match machine performance to the application. The monitor panel provides information on AdBlue/DEF fluid level, Eco guidance, operational records, fuel consumption history, and utilization information. A standard rearview camera with wide landscape allows the operator to view directly behind the machine.

• Convenient Maintenance and Serviceability

The PC240LC-11 provides easier service access in order to reduce costly downtime. The new model has guardrails on both sides of the upper structure for easier accessibility. The radiator and hydraulic oil cooler are mounted side by side, making it easier to maintain and service these two components when required.

The machine is equipped with the exclusive Komatsu EMMS (equipment management monitoring system), which has enhanced diagnostic features that give the operator and technicians greater monitoring and troubleshooting capabilities. EMMS also continuously monitors all critical systems, preventative maintenance, and provides trouble shooting assistance to minimize diagnosis and repair time.

All Komatsu Tier IV machines come with Komatsu Care. Komatsu Care provides complimentary scheduled maintenance for the first three years or 2,000 hours (whichever occurs first.) It also includes a 50-point inspection at each service and two complimentary KDPF exchanges in the first five (5) years.
