Komatsu America International Company recently introduced the newly upgraded PC95R-2 compact excavator for North American customers.

At 10 tons (9 t), the PC95R-2 is designed for utility, housing development and swimming pool contractors who encounter work in confined spaces and require an excavator that can dig outside the area of its tracks.

Powered by the Komatsu 4D106-lFB direct injection engine, the PC95R-2’s horsepower has been increased to 82.5 hp (61.4 kW), an improvement of almost 14 percent over the PC95-1. The PC95R-2 with its 7-ft. 7-in. (2.3 m) arm, has a maximum digging depth of 14 ft. 7 in. (4.4 m), a digging reach of 23 ft. 10 in. (7.2 m) and features a bucket range of .24 to .56 cu. yd. (.18 to .42 cu m).

Application Versatility

“A key benefit of the PC95R-2 is its versatility,” said Scott Lynch, product marketing manager, hydraulic excavators. “It is available in multiple arm lengths and can accommodate a variety of buckets. These options enable owners to optimize their equipment investment by matching the appropriate combination of machine and attachment to the job at hand.”

The PC95R-2 is designed to allow easy changeover of attachments. The excavator comes equipped with a standard hydraulic attachment kit that includes the piping, plumbing and actuator, enabling attachments to be easily mounted for versatile operation.

The PC95R-2 also is equipped with a standard 7-ft. 3-in. by 1-ft. 5-in. (2.2 by .43 m) dozer blade. With a maximum lift above ground of 1 ft. 4 in. (40 m) and a maximum depth below ground of 1 ft. 7 in. (.48 m), the PC95R-2’s dozer blade helps the machine perform backfill, fine grade and general clean-up operations with ease.

Improved Production

The design of the PC95R-2 incorporates several elements designed to improve overall productivity, according to Komatsu. A tight tail swing enables the machine to be positioned close to the work area, while a loading height of 14 ft. 11 in. (4.5 m) provides for optimum truck loading.

While some compact excavators can’t dig outside their tracks, the PC95R-2’s boom is on a pivot point, which allows an operator to dig outside of the tracks. This eases excavation in confined quarters and improves productivity on the job site.

Contributing to the unit’s productivity is Komatsu’s popular HydrauMind hydraulic control system, which provides the precise combination of working speed and power for more productive operation. With HydrauMind, the operator experiences less fatigue and gains greater control because the work equipment responds directly to the operator.

Working speed is proportional to the amount of pressure the operator applies to the joystick controls, providing the perfect combination of speed and power for unmatched precision in tight working environments.

The HydrauMind system also makes it easier to change attachments and add auxiliary valves.

Productivity is further enhanced by a new cab design developed in line with Komatsu’s “human-first” engineering concept, which focuses on increasing operator visibility and comfort to reduce fatigue. The soundproof, well-ventilated cab is larger than that of the PC95-1. Large expanses of tinted glass provide improved visibility of the work area from all sides.
