NCCER and the National Association of Women in Construction (NAWIC) will host the second annual Women’s Leadership Academy on Oct. 25 to 28, 2008, at Clemson University, Clemson, S.C.

The Women’s Leadership Academy provides women with the opportunity to elevate their careers and their management and leadership roles within their company and the construction industry.

“The NAWIC Leadership Academy helped me improve the way that I communicate with employees and clients,” said Christine Parsons of Parsons Electric, Lexington, Ky. “The real-life, situational scenarios helped me with valuable negotiation skills and has improved my confidence in dealing with people.”

The Women’s Leadership Academy targets business owners, education directors, office managers, training coordinators, or anyone interested in learning how to be a more effective leader. It consists of three days of intense training sessions covering such topics as leadership styles, negotiating techniques, time management, productivity and conflict resolution. Participants also receive network opportunities by sharing their experiences with peers from around the nation.

“The academy is truly a career-enhancing opportunity for women in construction,” said Diane Greene, NCCER director of operations. “The unique learning experience provides women with the opportunity to engage in peer mentoring with other women from construction firms and build lasting relationships.”

Upon completion of the academy, participants will receive continuing education units from Clemson University and may receive industry-recognized credentials from NCCER’s National Registry.
