Asphalt Paving Equipment & Supplies Inc. opened its doors for business Sept. 6 with a grand opening event in Wilmington, Del.

Co-founders Steven Krol and Andy Pennington and staff welcomed more than 120 customers and their families, friends and relatives to their new business located at 412 Meco Drive, off of Brookside Drive and Maryland Ave. in Wilmington.

The idea of creating Asphalt Paving Equipment & Supplies came about recently when Pennington and Krol decided that their combined expertise in the road equipment industry could lead to a successful venture.

“I’ve been selling road equipment for more than 20 years,” said Pennington. “Steve [Krol] had been a milling and paving contractor in Upland, Pa., for more than 45 years, and was a past client of mine for a long time. We became very good friends over the years and about six or seven weeks ago, we decided that opening a business together would be a great fit.”

The new company carries Atlas Copco, Dynapac, ALLU, Everpads, Husqvarna construction saws and blades, and all of the Deery asphalt product line for all of Delaware and the eastern shore of Maryland.

At the event, Atlas Copco, ALLU and Everpads representatives were on hand to assist Asphalt Paving Equipment & Supplies staff with showcasing the products to new and prospective customers. Deerhead Hot Dogs of Wilmington catered the event, while DJ Joe Centrone provided the musical backdrop.

“We couldn’t have been happier with the turnout for our grand opening,” said Pennington. “A lot of customers helped us celebrate, but it was also great having our friends and families there with us as well. The weather was great and everybody had a good time.”

Pennington added that he is excited to begin working with customers. “We handle everything needed for the asphalt industry — all the hand tools, lutes, shovels, etc. Our slogan is ’If we don’t have it — you don’t need it!’ And we have free delivery.”

Plans are already in the works to open a second Asphalt Paving Equipment & Supplies location in Sussex County in Delaware by April 2015.
