Leaving the corporate world to pursue an entrepreneurial dream is a decision seldom left to the faint of heart.

A risk in every sense of the word, one may wonder why a relatively even-keeled business man would forego the certainty of his existing career for the great unknown of business ownership.

For Prasad Donti, it all comes down to a feeling. Donti took over for Gil Moyers on April 1 as the Ontario owner of Pirtek, the service provider of ETA 1-Hour On-Site Hose Replacement.

Pirtek Ontario East is located on 1609 S. Grove Avenue Suite 104 in Ontario, Calif.

Donti had been working in manufacturing and service management and he made significant bottom-line improvements for his employers. Donti knew that he could accomplish much more by striking out on his own.

“I wanted to have more control over my own destiny and that just wouldn’t be possible working for someone else,” said Donti. “For someone as risk-averse as myself, this was a huge step but I knew the time was right to take it. As the saying goes, nothing ventured, nothing gained and no risk, no reward.”

Donti had wanted to start a business from scratch that utilized his past expertise but, as he was researching his options online, he came across a concept that fit his criteria perfectly: Pirtek.

“Pirtek was right in the vein of what I wanted to do on my own. It was both business to business and industrial — two things that my previous career revolved around — with the added bonus of being a franchise with a built-in support system,” said Donti, a Placentia resident.

“This area in particular is rich with industrial and logistical operations. I had a good idea of what local businesses need and want and Pirtek’s services are right on target.”

Rockledge, Fla.-based Pirtek offers a 24-hour, 7-day service that serves almost every facet of industry including construction, manufacturing, marine, transportation, agriculture and engineering among others.

When an equipment breakdown occurs, it often results in costly delays in time and labor before the proper replacement hose is located and installed. Pirtek vans carry the component parts necessary to manufacture hose assemblies on site.

Hoses and fittings also can be purchased over-the-counter at Pirtek’s national network of service centers that serve as home bases to its mobile fleet. There are nearly 40 Pirtek service centers and more than 170 Pirtek mobile service vans serving major metropolitan markets throughout the United States.

Projections are to open 12 service centers in 2008, increasing to 18 in 2009.

“From my first introduction to Pirtek, it just felt right. Everyone that I talked to was so genuine, helpful and extremely confident and knowledgeable about the industry and wouldn’t be that way if they didn’t truly believe in the service they were providing,” said Donti. “Sure, leaving the familiar for the uncertain is risky but I already know it’s one of the best decisions I’ve ever made.”
