Design architect Irena Škoda, president and a founding member of The Designers + Builders Alliance (D + BA) of Long Island, reported a resounding success on all fronts following the nonprofit organization's third annual signature Homes of Distinction Tour held April 30 in Rockville Centre.

“We've raised a record-breaking $10,000,” cheered Škoda, then noted that the Homes of Distinction project is “extremely rewarding on many levels. It benefits the charities and the communities we represent, and it furthers the D + BA's mission. This event isn't just about showing homes; it's about creating beautiful homes through architectural design.”

She added, “Long Island is just a start for us – our mission is to grow.”

Participants spent the sunny afternoon on self-guided tours that showcased the majesty and creativity of well-crafted architecture and interior design as seen in four stunning area homes. A special bonus was the participation of honorary event chair George Oliphant, designer and star of NBC-TV's George to the Rescue, who mingled with guests at the Meet the Creators after party at The Phillips House Museum in Rockville Centre.

D + BA Executive Director Suzanne Sokolov said, “This event invites end-users in to our organization. There's such enthusiasm when they see what our professionals can do. We plan to host more events that involve homeowners.”

Marlaina Teich, vice president of the D + BA, said, “Architects and designers are working in collaboration here. They've come together to make our community better.”

Event Chair Barbara L. Dixon, founding editor-in-chief of Elle Décor said, “It's wonderful to see the new designs – these homes have a soul. There's a strong life force in every home you enter.”

The charities benefited are: The Rockville Centre St. Patrick's Parade; the Tommy Brull Foundation; The Children's Tumor Foundation; and The Ballinasloe Eagles, a Special Olympics team based in Galway, Ireland.

The Designers + Builders Alliance of Long Island is a 501 (c) (3) nonprofit organization uniting architects, builders, contractors, interior designers and other high-end residential professionals. Funds raised at Alliance events support worthy local causes.
